Which online platforms are the best for recruiting? 

Rest assured, there are plenty to choose from. But, for all the time you could be spending, there are certain platforms which will give you the best bang for your buck. 

Let’s examine two today, briefly. Incidentally, they both offer free tiers which actually produce candidates!

1. Indeed.com. 

Indeed.com, as you’ve probably heard from TV and other advertisements, is a national website with a broad reach and wide pool of candidates. Indeed provides the recruiting organization with simple-to-use tech (unsure? Follow my step-by-step How-To Guide for starting your own account here) with the possibility of generating candidates within 24-48 hours of launching your 1st job post!

Have you used Indeed only to find a glut of unqualified or spiritually incompatible candidates for your organization? That can happen! Instead of letting it stop you, make wise usage of custom screening questions to filter out candidates who aren’t good fits, at least forcing them to consider multiple times whether or not they should proceed. If you make the post’s questions clear enough, don’t be surprised when that gusher of poor candidates dries up!

Unsure what a job post should look like? Don’t worry! There are plenty out there to model from, plus the existence of AI such as Google’s Gemini which can generate the skeleton for you! Once you have created the first job description, you can use it to create subsequent job posts on other sites, which naturally leads us to the next, final site in our discussion for today. 

2. Handshake.com

Handshake is a well-known, college-focused site with an emphasis on bringing searching recruiters to seeking college students! Maranatha Baptist University just recently switched its recruiting platform to this provider. 

Handshake provides active or passively-looking college students’ information to interested organizations and their recruiters. On one hand, students can search for open jobs using the platform. On the other hand, organizations can directly reach out via the platform to users who seem promising. And the best part? Not only is it free, but Handshake allows you to push your job to multiple schools’ students at the same time! 

Both Indeed and Handshake provide paid versions of their products. However, for sheer size and scale, both companies’ free tiers should be enough to allow easy access to potential candidates. And with free trials for both, what could go wrong? 

THE BOTTOM LINE: 

The bottom line is, if your recruiting efforts have stalled, or your desperate to nail down a candidate by next year, don’t hesitate to think outside the box. Christian school leaders must make use of the tools in their toolbox, wisely “redeeming the time” as the Bible commands. Of course, not all tools are created equal, but these two are fine options. And if in the end neither tool works, what is the loss but time spent getting to know a useful tool?
